Military Appreciation Night connects Morris Knolls community, Picatinny Arsenal
Prior to kickoff, the Morris Knolls ‘Golden Eagles’ ran on to the field carrying the nation’s colors and flags representing each brand of the U.S. Armed Forces, followed by the singing of the national anthem, a moment of silence, and honors to all military Veterans in attendance.
The evening featured participation from Picatinny Arsenal, whose Garrison Commander Lt. Col. John Meier, took part in the pregame festivities by conducting the ceremonial coin toss using a military challenge coin provided by the installation’s commanding general, Maj. Gen. Christopher D. Schneider.
Commanders and senior leaders often present coins to recognize exceptional performance, professionalism, leadership, or contributions. The ceremonial toss provided a meaningful connection between the local military community and the high school football program, incorporating a military tradition into the evening’s athletic activities.
Picatinny Arsenal also supported the event by providing military equipment for static displays, giving attendees an opportunity to get an up-close look at some of the equipment associated with the installation’s mission.
A team of employees representing the Arsenal’s U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Armaments Center brought a M777A2 howitzer with 3D printed projectiles for the community to explore, while others provided training on a remotely operated weapons system known as CROWS that allows Soldiers to observe, aim, and engage targets from inside an armored vehicle.
Local military recruiters representing the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps were also on hand, supporting the appreciation night with informational and interactive displays. Their participation provided students and community members with opportunities to learn more about military service, career paths and the opportunities available through military service.
Morris Knolls’ ‘Golden Eagles’ secured the win against the visiting Morristown ‘Colonials’ in the home conference matchup, delivering a strong performance on the gridiron as both teams continued their 2026 high school football campaigns. While the Golden Eagles entered the second half with a dominating 41-0 score, they were unable to tack any additional points, and the Colonials cut the lead with two touchdowns. The game’s final score was 41-13.
