Frijoles Fire updates: community meeting info and current wilderness and forest closures

SANTA FE, N.M., Aug. 17, 2026—The U.S. Forest Service and California Interagency Incident Management Team 8 are hosting a Frijoles Fire information community meeting Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 6:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, located at 201 W. Marcy Street.
Join officials for the latest incident information, current conditions, and community information. You can attend in person or online. The meeting will be livestreamed on YouTube and posted to the Santa Fe National Forest Facebook page. Check the official Frijoles Fire InciWeb page for the latest information.

Be aware of wilderness area and forest closures associated with the Frijoles Fire and check the Frijoles Fire InciWeb page for updates. Entering a closed area during an active wildfire—whether on foot, by bicycle, or in a motor vehicle—can create serious safety hazards. Entering a closed area is a federal violation punishable as a Class B misdemeanor. Penalties include a fine up to $5,000 for individuals (up to $10,000 for organizations), up to six months in prison, or both.

The portion of the Pecos Wilderness managed by the Española Ranger District is closed to the public to protect your safety and allow firefighters and aviators to safely suppress the Frijoles wildfire. Stay away from closed areas until further notice. Please follow all posted closure signs and directions from law enforcement and the National Guard.

- Rio Molino Trailhead
- Rio Quemado Trailhead and Rio Quemado Trail #153

- Winsor Trail #254
- Rio En Medio Trail #163
- Rio Nambe Trail #160
- Frijoles Canyon Trail #154
Pecos-Las Vegas Ranger District Status
- Jack's Creek and Panchuela Area: Jack's Creek Campground, Group Campground, and Equestrian Area, and Panchuela Campground and Trailhead remain closed due to ongoing construction.
- Pecos Wilderness Access: Access to the Pecos Wilderness from the Española Ranger District is currently closed.
